=====================================================
SCION GENEALOGIST 5
=====================================================
Programme Requirements:
----------------------
Kickstart/Workbench v2.04 (or later). Version 2.10 (or later)
required for locale support (alternative languages).
A minimum of 1 Mbyte of RAM. 4 Mbytes of RAM is recommended.
Hard-disk drive STRONGLY recommended.
Installation:
------------
The preferred method is to use the supplied "Install" programme.
However, it is relatively easy to install Scion "by-hand"....
(1) Create a drawer where you want Scion installed.
(2) Drag or copy the Scion programme into this drawer.
(3) The startup picture displayed when you run Scion is stored in a file
named 'ScionLogo'. This file should be copied to the same drawer as the
programme. If you prefer, you can replace this file with a picture file
of your own (it MUST be in IFF-ILBM format), or you can delete it
altogether. NOTE: This file has no icon - use the "Window/Show/All Files"
menu on the Workbench to see the file.
(4) Dearchive the "Scion.Guide" help file from "ScionSupport.lha" and store
it in the same drawer as the programme.
THIS COMPLETES THE MINIMUM INSTALLATION.
(5) If you want to create your own ARexx programmes, you should dearchive the
'ScionRexx.Guide' file from the "ScionSupport.lha" archive. This file
contains information on all the ARexx commands supported by Scion.
(6) The default language of Scion is English. If there are additional
(non-English) support files supplied, you should dearchive the files
for your preferred language(s) from "ScionSupport.lha".
The non-English files should be installed in two locations:
(a) The "localisation" catalog files are -
'ScionProgDir/catalogs/language/scion5.catalog'
where - 'ScionProgDir' is the (full) name of the Scion programme
drawer, and
- 'language' is the non-English language (eg 'deutsch'), and
- 'scion5.catalog' is the non-English "localisation" file.
Simply create the 'language' drawers for the languages you want
and copy the appropriate 'scion5.catalog' files to these drawers.
(b) The non-English help (.guide) files are -
'ScionProgDir/guides/language/Scion.Guide'
where - 'ScionProgDir' is the (full) name of the Scion programme
drawer, and
- 'language' is the non-English language (eg 'deutsch'), and
- 'Scion.Guide' is the non-English help file.
Simply create the 'language' drawers for the languages you want
and copy the appropriate 'Scion.Guide' files to these drawers.
SPECIAL NOTE: If there is not a 'Scion.Guide' file in your preferred
language, the (default) English help file should remain in
the 'guides/english' drawer (or in the same drawer as the
programme). Then the English help file will be available
instead.
(7) If you want to create your own non-English translations, you can
use the files contained in the 'Translators' archive.
(8) The archive "ScionARexx.lha" contains a large number of Scion ARexx
support programmes supplied by Scion users.
